Becoming A Sustainable Leader in Technology

At the intersection of technology and sustainability, our mission is clear: to cultivate a more ethical, responsible data center industry. Ark proudly delivers enterprise solutions that empower digital transformation and sustainable growth, and with a strong focus on energy conservation, employee development and community action, we’re dedicated to driving positive change for our customers, team members and our planet.

Writing Our Own Roadmap for Sustainability

Back when Ark (previously Involta LLC) was founded in 2007, there was no roadmap for reducing carbon emissions. There was no path toward a greener data center. Instead, forward-looking tech companies that understood the importance of sustainability made incremental, everyday improvements that focused on energy efficiency and conscious business emissions that moved companies toward zero emissions.

Using this foundation, Ark leadership guided our developmental strategy toward environmental health initiatives, employee health, happiness and well-being and the highest standards of ethics. Today, we’re a privately-held company whose overall strategy is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors. Our Board also oversees our ESG initiatives and performance and is continually helping us improve and grow.

We believe sustainable operations are imperative to ongoing success, and we commit to utilizing 100% carbon-free electricity across our facility footprint by 2030.

Achieving ENERGY STAR® Excellence

In the energy-intensive data center industry, Ark is dedicated to creating a cleaner, greener technology landscape with innovative infrastructure solutions that empower our customers and enhance their sustainability efforts.

Six of Ark’s purpose-built, enterprise-class data centers have achieved coveted ENERGY STAR® Certifications from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, underscoring our ongoing commitment to pursuing sound Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. Through ongoing incremental improvements, Ark’s Akron, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Boise and Tucson facilities obtained ENERGY STAR® Certifications for the first time in 2023, while our Duluth facility achieved its fifth consecutive certification. Of the six data centers certified, three were in the 90th percentile, with Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Boise scoring 96, 99 and 98 respectively.

The ENERGY STAR® Certification is the only energy efficiency certification in the U.S. based on verified energy performance—certified facilities have achieved a score of at least 75 in their evaluation and are verified to perform in the top 25% of buildings nationwide. On average, ENERGY STAR® Certified facilities use 35% less energy, cause 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions and are less expensive to operate than their peers, all without sacrifices in performance and comfort.
